For more than 30 years Steve has built a record of experience and professional quality. It’s earned him the trust of many national insurance companies which have pre-approved service by Custom Auto Builders. That means that Steve and his staff have passed a rigorous checklist of standards in serving customers and rebuilding damaged vehicles.
Steve is an ASE Certified Master Technician, and is certified in painting and refinishing, non-structural and damage repair, structural analysis and damage repair and air conditioning. The certification stemmed from training which included the I-CAR training programs. These recognized programs help career technicians remain current on the ever-changing auto industry.
Steve is proud he’s created a family owned and operated business. His family includes his wife Cristy and sons Cory and Joe. Steve’s interests include fishing, hunting, traveling, boating, biking, camping, watching movies, cooking, working on his acreage and, of course, cars.
From its beginning, Cristy has helped Custom Auto Business and her husband, Steve, serve a growing number of customers. Her work now includes acting as a back-up office assistant. You can find her next door to her husband’s business at her own enterprise—Curves Fitness Center. Cristy’s training and certification includes office management, the Cleveland Clinic of Exercise, Nutrition and Behavior Modification.
Besides her family time, Cristy is devoted to Faith Ministry, health and fitness, roller skating and traveling.

Mark’s eightyears of experience seem almost as long as his training credentials. As an estimator for both client needs and insurance requirements, Mark is trained to evaluate damage caused by everything from every day collisions to disasters.
The coursework includes: Vandalism Damage Analysis; Aluminum Panels and Structural Damage; Steering and Suspension Damage; Waterborne Systems; Damage Analysis; Advanced Material Damage and Vehicle Technology and Trends.
Mark, a life-long Mason City resident, and wife Cindy have two daughters: Emily and Erin. When he’s not at work, Mark is drawn to car shows and enjoying Street Rods.
For 23 years Deb has helped customers while managing the office at Custom Auto Builders. Deb is a secretarial graduate of Hamilton Business College and a Clear Lake resident all of her life. There Debbie and her late husband, Randy, raised two daughters, Heather and Andrea. Randy passed away in August of 2004. Extra time finds her enjoying five grandchildren: Mackenzie, Morgan, Cory Jr., Thomas and Logan. She also enjoys biking, walking, watching movies, listening to music and traveling to Florida to see grandkids.

The U.S. Navy started Jason’s career path after certifying him as a crane operator, which he did for two years. After that, training led him to Riverland Community College where he took two years of training in Auto Body and Collision and a year of Auto Industrial Mechanics. Jason’s also certified as an “ASE Master Technician, is I-Car Platinum Certified and, finally, is certified in steel manufacturing welding. Jason has worked for 16 years at Custom Auto Builders. (“And never called in sick! Woot!Woot!”)
A proud native of Toeterville, Jason is married to Carol and they have two daughters, Lilly and Mindy, and son “Scrammy.” When he isn’t busy being a dad, you can find him riding Motorcross.
“We will do the best job possible to return your car to pre-crash condition in a timely manner as soon as we get parts,” Jason says.
Sean Thomas Hook
Automotive Technician Sean Hook is too busy to say anything but the blunt truth. “We will take care of you and get it done right.”
Sean is in his eighth year at Custom Auto Builders and has taken the I-CAR training programs and on-the-job training with Steve Tass. He is ASE certified in painting and refinishing; non-structural (bumpers, etc.) and damage repair, and structural (frame) analysis and damage repair. His specialty is painting and body straightening.
